Hello, dear audience, we are here to share with you something very important about China. You are all well aware of China’s population, which has been the largest in the world for the last six decades. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, which is also known as NBS, in that particular year, China’s population decreased by 850,000.
A democratic shift happens just because of the decrease in the birth rate, coupled with an expeditiously aging population. Last year, i.e., 2024 the national rate of natural increase was .99 percent, with 6.77 live births for every 1000 people, up slightly from 6.39 in the year 2023, remaining flat from 2022.
Has the Fertility rate of China fallen?
In the 1970’s people were shaped by fear about population. As you know, China is the most populous country; China was the topic of discussion due to its high population. But the population fear was shaped by the people of the country. Then they designed their one-child policy, so that couples could limit the population by having one child.
Then, China’s fertility rate – one child per woman. This strategy has worked, and the birth rate has fallen down in the early 1970s. While the Chinese Government has restricted families for more than one child, in the middle of this, they also made an exceptional rule. If people had their first child as a girl, they were allowed to have one more baby. In such rules, fertility rates never dropped close to one.

But the interesting thing is that from a few years ago, or you can say when the Chinese Government encouraged the larger family in 2016. Then the fertility rate has fallen down and dropped to one child. But the reason behind this was not the one-child policy, but the social and economic policy.
